ALLAN YIU CHEUNG SIH, a trusted friend and dedicated volunteer, died in New York City on February 7, 2011. Allan was born in Hong Kong on November 24, 1967. He earned a bachelors and masters degree in public accounting from the University of Texas at Austin, The Red McCombs School of Business and remained an avid supporter of the university throughout his life. Allan was a member of the Beta Alpha Psi accounting honors fraternity.
Allan spent 7 years at KPMG in New York City before joining American Express where he worked for 13 years in a variety of roles
including corporate financial reporting to AMEX Global Network Strategies and Global Commercial Card Marketing.
Allan’s true passion was his volunteer work. Allan’s dedication to serving others was an inspiration to all. He was first to volunteer, last
to leave a project or event, and made an immeasurable impact on New York City.
Allan was President of the New York Texas Exes from 1994-1997, serving over 6,000 members. He was the master of communications bringing the chapter into the electronic age and noted for uniting 100s of alumni through game watching gatherings, which grew from one venue to at times five venues. Allan’s leadership earned him respect within the NY Texas A&M Club of former students with whom
the Exes often met and socialized. Additionally, Allan was instrumental in raising money for the chapter’s scholarship fund through annual events such as the Texas Chili Cook-off and Alumni Boat Cruise.
Allan joined New York Cares in 1999 and quickly became a Team Leader. He gave 1,155 hours of his time over the years, participating in 450 projects and leading 261 projects as a Team Leader. He led new volunteer orientations as a member of our Speakers Bureau since 2003, inspiring thousands of New Yorkers as they joined the New York Cares community. Allan was a regular at Dog Walking at BARC, Village Temple Meal Service, Meal Prep at God’s Love We Deliver, Reading at PS 150Q, and the Kickoff at the NYC Marathon, among his many projects. In 2007, Allan received a New York Cares Leadership Award, and earned numerous Presidential Service Awards.
Allan truly embody the pro-bono ethic as account director at Taproot Foundation where he led a team of six pro-bono consultants to produce an annual report for a nonprofit that provides early childhood development services to low-income families.
Allan was interned with his Father and Grandmother on March 31, 2011 at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Colma, CA (outside San Franscisco). A small memorial was held attended by Allan’s family.
In honor of Allan Sih, a University of Texas scholarship has been created. Friends are invited to donate to the fund by going to https://www.texasexes.org/form/donate.asp and specify the donation is going to the Allan Sih Scholarship. All contributions are welcome, no amount is too little.
